Dance Now!
It's my first ODAC camp with my Secondary School, and I love it! Even though I really miss leeches. Hah!
So, those who are going to Changi Coast Adventure Centre (again) - you can be assured that there aren't creatures such as leeches lurking around. If you are complaining about ants, spiders, etc... I think it's a given they are going to be permanent residents there.
I've seen the students staying up into the wee hours, writing their journals... and I'm very encouraged, I could literally feel a glow of pride. The camp-in-charge, Mr Vincent, is very much impressed with their discipline too. (Keep up the good work - I was lost for words on quite a few occasions! :))
The journals, which the students were to faithfully write, were to capture the day's events, and reflect their learning points.
i) Team-building and general stations
ii) Song-leading and cheering

One of my friends have said, "a life without reflection is a life not worth living". Harsh as it may be, it is a fact that cannot be denied. We don't improve when we don't reflect. We don't improve when we keep doing the same things over and over again without challenging ourselves and breaking out of our comfort zone, don't you think?
And not reflecting is something I'm guilty of, too. I wanted to suggest then that we should keep a journal of our lives (as I try, with my blogs. :))
It is strange how we plan so well for something that is on a short-term basis, but not with our lives. Imagine a basketball game without the net to score, a soccer game without goalposts. No direction, with nothing to work towards.
I've just wrote a Mission Statement, and Vision. At least to know how this captain is going to chart new waters. :P (Mission statement deals with WHY WE ARE HERE, Vision deals with WHAT WE WANT TO SEE ACHIEVED BY A CERTAIN DATE. And for some who have a long-term VISION, ie. "I want to speak to an audience of 9000 at Singapore Indoor Stadium", it's called a DREAM.)
The camp's a success, as the students have all played their roles well - when we are first clear what roles we should play, and then how to play them well. It reminds me that I've a role at home to play, as a daughter, as a sister - am I playing those roles well? And when I'm a student at NIE, will I play the role of a student well? Or will I go to school simply to get together with my friends and for fun, laughter, love and joy... or do I turn up with the expectation to learn?
And LEARN to learn. Learning doesn't stop when we get our diplomas, or degrees - I'd want to remind myself that.
Finally, I'm grateful to be here.
And KUDOS to all ODACians - proud of you!
P.S. For all the "quacks-quacks"... your utmost perseverance, endurance and determination to do all that is required of you, and not ask for time-out, have earned a salute.
Let me see if I could get some pictures up... soon...
Hihi, as promised... the link to the pictures: http://www.phssodac.shutterfly.com
More upcoming... watch this space! (Let me see if I could add on some captions to them too!)
P.P.S. (P.S. is an acronym for post script.)
